Transportation Operations Manager Job at TJL Company Ltd

TJL Company Ltd is a registered company which deals with transportation/trucking business. It owns a fleet of local and domestic trucks for transportation of cargo across Tanzania. The company now is looking for an experienced Transportation Operations Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for day to day operational management for all transport and fleet operations
  • Responsible of managing assets and available business in such a way as to minimize operational expenses while maximizing trucks utilization
  • Supervise key staff to monitor operations at workshop, ensuring workload is completed per customer expectations, efficiently, safety and compliant with all applicable regulations
  • Coordinate with company maintenance personnel and workshop supervision to keep trucks and trailers maintained, safe and operating per country regulations while managing associated cost
  • Assist workshop supervision in dispatching and managing local domestic fleet
  • Plan with key staff to determine strategic direction of the company core activity of transportation business
  • Develop and implement compliant, effective safety programs
  • Work with other key staff to determine staffing levels, job descriptions, and assist in the recruitment of drivers and support staff
  • Assist sales team in marketing transportation business services by providing information about available trucks capacity, and work well with the existing customers in retain and expanding sales opportunities
  • Partner with accounting staff and sales team to monitor customer payment
  • Provide back-up support to workshop supervision and administrative staff in the performance of their duties
  • Remain knowledgeable on current industry regulations, trends, and other relevant information
  • Share in off-hours/weekend call duties with other staff members and management
  • Develop and implement workshop standard operating procedures
  • Coordinate with workshop supervision to help maximize asset utilization and driving time
  • Assist with the compilation and communication of payroll information
  • Maintain high degree of integrity at all times and in all circumstances
  • Perform all duties in professional manner which promotes the image, growth, profitability and success of the company
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality with issues related to drivers (private and personal matters), rates, customers, and other proprietary items
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Must be an all-round road transport specialist with Tanzania experience, and experience of managing a 50+ fleet size
  • Must have a strong understanding of and proven success in delivering a high quality and cost effective transport service
  • Must be a self-starter and capable of hitting the ground running from day 1
  • Experience of managing of a trucking operations of not less than 5 years
  • Must be able to work with minimum direct supervision
  • Must be able to work accurately and efficiently
  • Must have strong organizational skills
  • Ability to remain flexible in work assignments
  • Ability to multi-task as necessary
  • Must have good written and spoken communications skills
  • Must have strong computer skills
  • Infrequent overnight travel may be required
